Wh-questionsها سوالاتی هستند که با کلماتی نظیر what ،when ،where ،which ،who ،whose ،why و how شروع می‌شوند.
سوالات با when, where و why
برای سوالی کردن جملات با این کلمات، باید کلمه سوالی را (why, when و where) قبل از سوال بله یا خیر قرار دهیم:

| .They have been working hard for their exams | > | ?Why have they been working hard |
| .They arrived at six | > | ?When did they arrive |
سوالات با who, what, which
زمانی که در مورد مفعول فعل می‌پرسیم who, what و which، کلمه سوالی را قبل از سوال بله یا خیر قرار می‌دهیم، برای مثال:
| .He is seeing Joe tomorrow | > | ?Who is he seeing tomorrow |
| .I want a computer for my birthday | > | ?What do you want for your birthday |
| .I’d prefer some tea | > | ?Which would you prefer, tea or coffee |
وقتی در مورد فاعل فعل سوال می‌پرسیم who, what و which، کلمه سوالی در جای فاعل قرار می‌گیرد، برای مثال:
| .Barbara gave me the chocolates | > | ?Who gave you the chocolates |
| .Something funny happened | > | ?What happened |
| .The dog frightened the children | > | ?Which dog frightened the children |
گاها هنگام سوالی کردن، همراه با اسم از کلمات what و which استفاده می‌کنیم:
